PHOTOS: PL42-AC's on Atlantic City Line

PL42-AC's were rare on the AC Line until recently. In anticipation of the retirement of the Geeps, Transit is sending PL42-AC's to the AC Line so crews can get qualified on the equipment.
4006 and 4002 with trains 4628 and 4631 met at SOUTH RACE (Utica Ave, Westmont, just south of the Cherry Hill station) Friday afternoon.

Some of the Geeps are getting a bit old. 4108 and 4202, for example, were built in 1965; photos 23 July 2014 and 13 June 2014, respectively

4203 and 4215 were built in 1968; photographed 7/7/2014 and 16 March 2014, respectively.

LIRR, you have a phone call to make.

The money that you'd use to lease that stuff along with the Comets to make it work would be better used on fixing the track on the Greenport so the schedules don't suck ass.

If the LIRR was able to gain some of NJTs Geeps, does NJTs have any old coaches the LIRR could lease or buy? What is NJT planning on doing with the ACES coaches, could the LIRR get them?

Said fleet is in sorry shape. They could borrow some Shoreliners from Metro North. If you use Geeps and shoreliners on the Greenport scoot and the Oyster Bay shuttle, you'd free up more standard equipment for the Montauk branch without making the Port Jefferson branch suffer.

Why spend money on tracks that see 10 trains a day

To make them competitive with the roads that run parallel, maybe?

Bit of history: The rails to Greenport used to be part of a very busy NYC-Boston route that included a ferry bridge to Stonington, CT.

7 of 8 ACES coaches have been or about to be converted to ordinary commuter coaches. One will remain as is to become an 8000-series car, use unknown.

Most of the NJT Comet-3 fleet was flood-damaged in both Bay Head and Meadowlands. The rebuilding process would be severe enough to not grandfather the cab cars' structural status to be FRA compliant, which is why the COmet-2 cab cars were all stripped to coaches.

NJT EMD's won't fit thru Jamaica canopies (dynamic brake blisters on the hood units).

I wrote a comment to the MTA public hearings on LIRR capital plans saying in so many words that the diesel fleet situation is bad and unsustainable, they need to come out of denial, and should buy 20 Bombardier MLV cars doing whatever customizations necessary, after the MARC delivery completes.

Of course I know that. I needed to start off "easy" after being out for a year after having spine surgery. So I went for a short tc job, which isn't available on the afternoon/night trains. But even so, rumor has it that they will be sending the "after the PM rush hour" night RVL trains to NYC in a couple of months, so it won't matter anyway. Maybe I'll go back to Gladstone on the rollover in a couple of months...

But even so, that means that 99% of the weekday signups in Raritan will most likely involve going into NY Penn at some point. Only a couple of the high seniority jobs (ones that work both AM rush and PM rush) will avoid NY. That's ironic because in Gladstone, only the high seniority jobs go into NY Penn, while everything else goes to Hoboken...
