I don't think someone broke into Hillside. I think they wrote a dumb story imagining what it would be like... soda machines and a security guard, huh? How many places have those? |

I think this should be forwarded to the appropriate people at MTAPD and the LIRR.Second, I know that area, HOLLIS, not Hillside, very well.....would not be in his best interest to wander around there looking nervous and lost!! |

Anyone entering that facility needs to swipe an electronic card through a turnstile before even entering the buildings. No mention of that. |

Yeah, to me this story does sound a little BS'y!!! But then again, from my on-the-job experiences, the amount of security lapses at MTA facilities can be shocking!! |

I've made a few authorized visits to Hillside recently, and the description is so vague that I have serious doubts he ever got off the train. For one thing, if you attempt to exit to the parking lot on the same floor you came in from the train on, they will be scraping you off of someone's car. I know what you mean about the security lapses, tho. |

I would like to make some comments about this alleged occurrence and all the previous posts.1 - If the story is true, which I doubt, it seems to have been written by a young wise-ass. If getting off at HF is not legal except for LIRR employees and authorized visitors, why incriminate yourself by telling your story on the internet? Typical of today's youth posting all their exploits for the world to see. They don't know, or want to know that are always consequences for your actions. 2 - I would doubt there is a waiting room in the building. Never having been to HF, perhaps there is an area to wait in case of cold or inclement weather, which I would understand. When it is a nice day the employees could wait on the platform rather than being indoors. Most of us who have ridden the LIRR have done that. 3 - If there are vending machines there, so what. If the employees are putting their own money in there, then the measly profits would go to the MTA to pay the bills. The money earned is so negligible that if it pays for the proportionate share of the electricity with something left over to "reduce" the deficit, that's okay. 4 -It's a smart thing to have a station there. It takes many cars off the road, along with the attendant road crowding and pollution. Also eliminates the need for the acquisition of more land for a larger parking lot. 5 - As to the fact that the facility is actually in Hollis, but is called HF, what other name would you give it? Can't call it "Hollis Facility" since that would cause a lot of confusion with that station. I can live with the name HF since the old Hillside Station is just west of the current platforms. In fact if you look to the north side on a w/b train you can see remnants of the old station, just before the fly-over joins the main line. Just my thoughts |

Actually, what is amazing is what one can get away with doing if he simply has the nerve to try and a bit of an authoritative air and maybe a clipboard or a fake badge. It doesn't just apply to MTA facilities-- it could be anywhere or anything. But as I suggested, one also has to be willing to gamble a bit as the possibility of being shot dead or being seriously injured remains. |

I know, necroposting, but the author updated the page:EDIT: 09/01/2014 – I see that this story is getting a lot of traffic from some train forum called SubChat. This story is fiction. I am a fiction writer and I make myself write a fictitious story every day. No, I didn’t really sneak into the Hillside Support Facility. I for one am disappointed that this fanciful tale of suburban exploration is a falsehood. |
