Find a copy of "The Subway" by Stan Fishler, it has a picture of a "ms. Subways" cutting the ribbon on the 11th street cut with some ABs parked at Queens plaza. |

As far as I recall, there were no D-types on Queens Blvd in regular service. The Fourth Av Local was Standards and R27-30s (with "RR" signs). My first experience on a D-type was on the Astoria line. |

I remember as a kid, seeing a BMT Standard for the first time at the 65th st Sta with my folks. My first thought was how does anybody know where the train goes??There were no destination signs on the front end. Having been on the Flushing line several times, I was used to seeing the big 7 in one window & Times Square in the other on the front end of the R-12. I have to guess that the passengers knew when they saw the GG, Smith-9th St on the front end of the R 1/9, they knew they weren't getting on a BMT train They knew they were on a BMT train based on what they did'nt see! BTW, I never saw a Triplex running to/from Continental Ave. |

As an early teenager, I recall railfaning the system with my crew.On one occasion, we were the Queens Plaza Station when a "Standard" pulled in on the local track. We bolted for it, and got on the last car. Much to our surprise, to get to the rail fan window, we had to go from car, to car by way of each local stop. The doors between cars were locked, because of wide swing of the cars. Before this we were use to IND 60 ft. cars. |

It was a strange sight to see Standards on the IND Queens Line, but I saw many, and I think I actually rode one set once. The 4th Avenue Local operated 7-car trains during peak hours. But there were no 7-car station markers at the stations (IND never ran trains consisting of an odd number of cars back in those days, except on the AA, where it would sometimes operate 3-car trains on Sundays), so the TA had to raid the IRT for IRT-style 7-car markers, which were hung where 8 cars would stop. These remained long after the Standards vanished from the Queens Line. |
