Itinerary is as follows:

0700 - Depart Concourse Yard and operate via "D" and "A" lines to Hoyt St, relay to NYTM on Track A1

1100 - Depart NYTM and operate via "A" and "H" to Rockaway Pk

Some guests may opt to leave for lunch

Additional Rides - Three Round Trips between Rockaway Park and Rockaway Blvd Middle

Crew break; Train to layup on F5 Track

1545 - Return to Rock Pk

1600 - Depart Rock Pk; operate via "H" and "A" to 125th St then on the "D" to Bedford Park Blvd

Layup to Concourse Yard

Stops for photographs or other reasons to be made at the discretion of the TSS in Charge of the Museum Train!

Guests will be allowed access to the system at Beach 90th and Rock Pk

As always, routing subject to change!
----

Before anyone asks about the consist for the excursion, I couldn't tell you what that will be. It is already known what is supposed to operate based on what the NYTM has advertised (R40/42), but perhaps that should be the TRUE SURPRISE!

Anyone who wants to know what the operating consist is should pass CCY one or two days before the Special (if you want to cheat) OR wait until 08/03 when the trip is run.

When the Nostalgia Trains run are their call letters "Court St 1100" or something to the like?

Doubt it. As an excursion train, it's not scheduled and is probably treated as a work train.

Most of the times I've heard them use the radio, they just used "Nostalgia Train" as a call sign.

IE "Jay Street Tower come in to the Nostalgia Train"

Before Sandy, I think I heard Beach 90th St was an up-and-coming place for new eateries. Certainly, the beach around Beach 116th St is largely dead - the boardwalk is still largely gone, and the beachfront stores are still shuttered. There are still open stores between the beach and the station, but they're pretty unremarkable.

There's a little bit of a mall there, but that's basically the beachgoer's option. There's a park from the Jamaica Bay side, where you can see the subway trestle and take pictures, that park is right at 90th St. You can do some fishing there too. A McDonald's is right by Cross Bay Bridge and there are great picture taking opportunities from the bridge when the train goes back and forth three times over it.

The trip was advertised as "The ride will end at Rockaway Park, and from there you can soak in some sun and take a swim at the beach. At 4:30 pm passengers can board the train to travel back along the A line."

How are all the passengers supposed to get to the beach from Rock Park? I was thinking Riis Park Beach but I guess they could just mean the beach at the foot of B116 St (ocean side). And the train is now leaving at 4:00pm instead of sometime after 4:30pm?

Any word on where the drop-off points will be?

I would think they mean the beach at B116. The Rockaway Beach runs continuously from B9 to B149.

Yes. I was just thinking back to the past few years where I believe that if the train went to Rockaway Park, the associated beach was always Jacob Riis Park (by way of vintage buses). I know vintage buses were never part of the plan this year, but I just didn't consider that they would downgrade the beach experience. I assumed that it is a downgrade, i.e. there are not the same public facilities at the B116 beach as there are at Jacob Riis Park. But I could be wrong.

I was just out in Rockaway yesterday for the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway EPIC Bike Ride. The beaches have been replenished and look very nice. While the beach was also replenished at Riis Park, the facilities are still in bad shape. The facilities near B 116th are probably in better shape, I think.
