The 700 series was particularly special because waivers had to be obtained for Alco to build them since they were built during the war and were capable of dual use (passenger and freight). There was a ban on building anything not specifically for the war effort at that time. |

That was the same situation with the New Haven EP-5 Jet, electric locomotive. There was a very small fleet of those and none were saved.My introduction to them was the excellent and detailed book written by Joe Cunningham, pub. by N.J.
