I was a bit surprised when I read it, but it would have been logical to use the recycled rails, ties, signals, etc, in the yard. Hopefully something made it past the wartime scrappers and was used in the Pitkin Yard! Perhaps that one signal which we keep hearing about at 76th Street? |

There was one R-12 in Concourse Yard that was completely filled with old signal equipment. Ties and rails would likely not be reused so if it was there it was only stored until it could be scrapped. |

It's possible that some of the rails and signals would have been recycled before the war erupted and demand for scrap would have taken precedent. Especially the Fulton, which was dual contracts between Rockaway and Nostrand Aves. |

None of the signals in Pitkin Yd are of the traditional BMT type but all are of the standard IND GRS type. It's doubtful that there would have been any placement of any recycled BMT parts to Pitkin Yd since there was quite a time span between the shutdown of the western portion of Fulton and the completion of Pitkin Yd, somewhere between 5 and 7 years. What is known is that some of the third rail and signals from Fulton were used on the Dyre Av Line when the city started operating it. |

I got to Pitkin Yard in June of 2005 - that's 60 years after the war. I presume that signals were upgraded once or twice in those 60 years. What are you actually looking for? IIRC some of the old BMT signals were semaphore type. I don't believe that any were ever used on the IND. |

Just want to know what happened to the BMT signals, etc, after they were removed from the Fulton el, after 6/01/40. Where where they stored and were they ever reused in Pitkin yard, or elsewhere? |
