Bathroom Tiles @ Rector

I rode the R from Rector St. today. I see that the station is getting some work, if not a complete reno...

Does this mean "sayonara" for the ugly (IMO) "bathroom tiles" that were installed in 1970-71? Also, I think Rector is the last station in Manhattan where they still exist.

I've never used a jackhammer or even a circulating saw (wimp, I know, right?), but I'd be willing to give either a try on those awful tiles...

I'd take the retro, blue Rector tiles over the indistinct, gray-brown 51st Street tiles any day.

Those also pretty ugly...

I wouldn't object to using them for jackhammer training...

Actuaally, I don't think the 51st St. tile job is all that awful in its own right. Rather, it's that the tiles are clearly stuck on the original job. If the job had been done properly, it would be tolerable.

But as is, let's fire up the air compressor...

Rector will get a mini renovation. I don't think MTA has the funds to remove the bathroom tiles....

Description: Component Repairs at 3 Stations on the Broadway Line
"This project will repair select station components at the Rector Street, Court Street, and Jay Street-Metro Tech Stations along the BMT Broadway Line in the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Work will vary by location and may include repair of mezzanine/control area walls, floors, ceilings and lighting; and platform edges, floors, walls and lighting."

Supposedly finish by March 2015

Well...thanks...

I've seen the staircase work there (well, the wooden sheds that evidence it, anyway...)
