The time sheet says 27 minutes. Being that the trains did not dwell for the normal length of time at the unopened stations the time sheet running time will be closer to realty when they start carrying paying passengers next weekend.Sounds like the wheels on the lead car had a flat spot on them. You can see the remnants of the track work being done between the junction and the portal. Here is the time laps going westbound: John in the sand box of Maryland's eastern shore. |

Hey, do you know the details of when the "first train" will head up the Silver Line? Will it depart from largo or be some sort of short turn?It will be from Largo and run through to Wiehle-Reston East. It should be a train that will arrive at the McLean Station some time after noon. Can't get the departure time for the first train to Wiehle-Reston East from Largo as the Trip Planner is acting stupid right now. John in the sand box of Maryland's eastern shore. |

I'll probably grab it at Largo...whenever that may be.Supervisors there should be able to tell you which train will be the first passenger carrying train to Wiehle-Reston East or simply look for the first train displaying a Wiehle-Reston East destination sign. should be a departure sometime after 1100. Me, I will be in Tysons around 0900 to photograph exteriors of trains running and enter the system at McLean around 1130. WMATA is throwing the doors open at the Tysons Corner stations at 1130 to allow users to inspect the station before allowing them to board the trains. At the time of day I will hit the Beltway on the east side it will faster to go through town via DC-295, DC I-395, VA-110, VA I-66, VA-267 to the McLean station on VA-123. Would that be anywhere near the global (or at least national) record for furthest distance between stations on a city/town Metro ROW?In NY the furthest distance between stops is JFK to Broad Channel, which is only about 3 miles I think. In London the furthest distance between stops is 3.9 miles. On PATH, Journal Square to Harrison takes longer (9 minutes) but seems to be shy of 5.8 miles, based on estimation with Google Maps. |
