That would turn Alstom's products from cheap European junk into cheap GE junk. Still, an improvement. It would also bring Gentral Railroad Signal under GE ownership. Actually that's damn good Thruway synergy seeing that GRS is HQ'd in Rochester. |

GE, a financial enterprise with some former industrial divisions still operating, apparently will acquire a manufactruring firm. Will be interesting to see how much they keep and for how long. Say RCA. |

From what I was told years ago, the NYCRR, Alco, GE, GRS and NY Air Brake were all under the same holding company so history may be repeating itself. |

Could mean GE is back in the passenger loco business by acquisition. Perhaps the Amtrak Midwestern order had something to do with it GE getting interested (they are not getting that order). .Genesis in no longer offered. NJT PL42 could be made available. |

GE has a long track record of buying up trendy without improving the product. Mind you I still think their breaker panels are very well made and designed. Can you say copper busbar--none of that aluminum crap for the hot sides. Very few failures in37 years of installing them. OTOH the QC is slipping with wrong parts in the OEM carton. And then there are the prime movers in the diesels...I have seen them roll by with a large yellow flame in the stack smoking like an oilfired steamer at a runby. Anybody want an E60? |

And of course, buying up a successful rival is easier than designing a superior product from the ground up.\ For comedic relied: In the old printed editions of the circuit breaker/panel catalog, there was a disclaimer that nothing in the book was to be installed in any nuclear facility. Makes you wonder whose breakers they used in the nuclear power plants they sold... |

Germany will probably end up buying both anyway.Did you know that even the top-selling German carmaker is only third place, behind GM and Toyota? Methinks you're making too much of 'em. |

Or more realistically we'd end up with a prodigiously powerful domestic manufacturer who would be likely to lobby to directly import the UIC EMUs, DMUs, HSTs and other rail equipment from Alstom's transport offerings. |
