Who's Coming To Chicago |
|
Posted by ChicagoPCCLCars on Wed Apr 23 00:05:36 2014 Skokie Swift 50th Commemoration I just got the details for Saturday's (April 22) Skokie Swift 50th anniversary event. It will be held at the Skokie-Dempster station starting at 11:00 AM and running until around 2 PM or so. The CTA's two 4000 series historic cars will be operating every 25 minutes. The cars will follow normal service cars as a second section. They will run to Howard, turn around in the track #5 pocket without unloading or loading at Howard, and run back out to Skokie. It's not yet known whether the cars will stop at Oakton-Skokie, too, but I'm pretty sure they will. You won't be able to get off or on at Howard Street. Regular CTA rail fares apply, but your monthly pass will work, too. CTA will hand out two different buttons, one with current CTA logo and one with the old 1964-vintage "Metropolitan Transit" CTA logo. |

As of 231255Z(UTC) APR 14, I'll be at the Hyatt in Rosemont just off the Blue Line near O'Hare. I'll make sure to take the steps not the escalator. |

While I certainly understand that unions declare boycotts much as I refuse to do business w/any entity in Arizona on account of anti-immigrant laws and enforcement behaviors, I am not clear why there would be one in this case. Perhaps you could direct me to further information? Sitting in Oakland CA but savoring having been there for opening day in '64, I look at this as a celebratory moment. Thus I am a bit taken aback that there might be some labor issue. |

I might be talking too much here, but I will say this, it is because of the union that I enjoy my pension, and have received good wages, and represntation. Forest Claypool, and Mayor Rahm Emanuel and upper cta management has shown complete disrespect toward mu co-workers. The railfan in me can't wait to go ride. My union loyalties tell me other wise.BTW, What anti-immigrant laws in Arizona are you talking about? I wasn't aware of any. |

Arizona SB 1070 DFo a google search. Now, as to Claypool and Rahm, certainly not people I have any use for, but if I were in Chicago, I would go. As to your union time having given you a secure pension, great. My experience was being turned away by the IBEW apprentice program, so I did it on my own, mostly very small jobs, no benefits but having the idiot in the mirror as a boss has some advantages. I firmly believe in the right to collective bargaining, but have said many times on this board that I consider transit in the same status as police/fire/emergency medical services, so I support the Taylor Law strike ban. (I am transit dependent so it is not optional transport). Whatever decision you make, have a pleasant weekend. |

Arizona sb 1070, mirrors existing federal law, and which protects Americans from ILLEGAL immigrants, not people who are here legally.I'm going to play it by ear. I respect and appreaciate what the unions have done, and stood for, I do not have much regard for the current modern national union leadership. |

At Howard, the new terminal features a viewing area where you can catch all the action in this south view with the four mainline. Tracks four, three, two, and one, are spaced left to rightThe middle stub in the center is where Yellow line trains to change ends That is number five. A Yellow line train uses track 5 to change ends and return to the NB platform. There was construction going at Howard when these photos were shot. |

That's very vague language. That could mean a whole bunch if different things. Why don't you more precisely explain what you are talking about. For example: who would be boycotting what? Who is calling for this boycott? Who would be participating it in? What will the physical ramifications be? |

It's been called off. The purpose was to bring attention to the fact that cta president, and that world's worst self hating Jew mayor Raham Emanuel's lack of respect towards my co-workers. |
