On a siding was a stripped 2-8-0 steam Consolidation loco, or maybe a 4-8-0: A little past Springfield we passed a small hard with some abandoned shunters: PPCS is New Zealand’s largest meat-marketing and processing company, exporting sheepmeat, beef, venison and associated products to more than 60 countries. This engine was purchased in 1982 by PPCS to work at the Islington freezing works. It was donated to the Midland Railway Heritage Trust in 2005, and towed to the group's base at Springfield by a special shunting movement. Look at what was in the yard: It would be great to see these restored. Approaching our destination, Rolleston, we passed a waiting freight: And a few minutes later we arrived: Our motive power: And back on board a bus to our ship we went.
