R110A/R188

For those interested as per my contacts:

R110A 8006-10 were on the move tonight, 239th to 207th St Yards, they were part of a tow job.

According to the contact, Museum R33's 9010-11 and 9206-07 took up the south end with 8006-10 behind them, and a single R33 Work Motor on the north, 93xx (don't have a number handy). 8006-10 have an appointment with the shop as these too (in addition to 8001-05) will be converted to a pump train. Very interesting indeed.

I was expecting a diesel tow, wasn't expecting Museum Cars to take up the run.
---

The R188's: several are currently residing at Pitkin Yard, for testing and other work.

7216-20 with 7899
7822-26
Newly Delivered 7833-37.

As 7833-37 were towed dead last week, they were sent down to Pitkin to be made functional and they too would undergo testing.

Keeping any eye on 239th St Yard, nothing else seems to be happening with the R188 Deliveries at the moment.

Last item: R142A 7242 has a date at the Kawasaki Plant. It was spotted on Wednesday in the vicinity of Van Cortlandt Park, headed to Yonkers.

Very interesting indeed! Thanks for sharing. The use of the R33ML cars on these moves seems to be the norm nowadays; they moved the R36WF pair to 207 in September and recently, the now scrapped R27/30 school cars.

Makes me wonder what's next for the R110B cars.

Too bad they couldn't save one car from the R110A set for the museum.

I read somewhere that there was a plan to hold over an A-unit and a B-unit, or two R110A cars, for preservation, along with one R110B A-unit car. Plans probably changed. Good news, though, these cars are getting new use.

There might be other things happening as well.

R188 Car 7843 has arrived on the property at 239th St Yard as per my sources; so I will be looking for a complete set of Cars 7838-43 in a few days.

One which I am not so clear on right now involves the R110B. Have been told one car (3007) has been moved to the track (65) that goes out onto 215th St. Chances are, it's leaving the property. I have no other details at this time.

I'd rule out a scrap move; the cars, if I have this right, were purchased with federal money. So they can't be scrapped, at least not right now. I'm curious also as to this development.

I drove by 207th Street Yard on the Major Deegan this morning and, whatever car or cars that were supposed to be there, aren't there anymore.

But after seeing pictures someone posted Right Here, I realized cars 3001-3003 weren't where they would normally be parked, on the track beside 3007-3009 and R12 5782.

So as to where 3001-3003 went off to, who knows? But they're not there.

A car has a design life in the contract, typically 40 years for the TA. If the feds pay for the car, which in the case of the R110s they did not, then they expect the car to be built that design life. They won't force someone to keep it around for that long, instead they usually want at least 25 years out of the car as a way of justifying their investment. Hardly illogical.

What was the expected design life of the R-110A/R-110B in the contract, if anybody knows?

The only way to know if 3594-95 are still down there would be if someone could take a trip to FBF. After speaking to someone, the person still isn't aware of that pair being replaced.

They are stainless steel, they will probably be able to endure the elements far better than any redbird.

It's a thought, and I've never been on the Bx46. So who knows?

As far as 8912-13 are concerned, unless some shop personnel go to Tiffany to retrieve parts, the cars as a whole would go right to the scrapper. We are assuming of course that they have been removed or will be taken down from the structure...

I live close to that vicinity and never rode the Bx46. Only seen these buses pass by once or twice an hour and the buses don't carry many people. Driving along the route, i can say it's probably not a very long ride.

As for 8912-13 leaving, it does make sense, seeing that the old equipment's being replaced by these newer equipment that have held up better throughout time.

Just drove by the area awhile ago. 8912-13 are still up there on the structure. Nothing out of the ordinary that signified removal. The cars themslves look prety good exterior-wise.

8001 and 05 have been set aside for now. They should be sitting outside.

The Scope of the Work at the present involves the B cars 8002, 03, 04.

8007, 08, and 09 will get the same work.

So only the B-cars of each set are being converted? Got ya.

Now I wonder what will 8005's purpose will be then as well as the other A-cars, seeing that 8005 was gutted out last February for that conversion, as seen here:
