You are all wrong.MP54's windows are grouped in 3's These wide window separators have vertical corrugations. That also rules out any MP72. What it is a NH Pullman Standard Worcester-built "American Flyer" car of pre-war vintage, with paired windows. LIRR had a bunch, but the dual colored vinyl on the seats and the lower coat hook is a give-away that this is NOT a LIRR car, but a NH car. |

As a long time LIRR rider I immediately knew this was not a LIRR MP54 or MP70 coach. Both had dark green vinyl seat covers, not the two tone style shown here.But on second look, this car appears to be a 1954-built New Haven Pullman-Standard "washboard" coach. The seats and paired windows and tile floors are the giveaways. Don't think it's one of the "American Flyer" type prewar cars. Some of those did end up on the LIRR as second hand coaches. |

The Washboards were also Worcester built, and had characteristics of pre war and post war American Flyer cars, and well as the MP72/P72LIRR bought the entire 30 car fleet from B&M as well as 3 of 6 Maine Central cars, none from the NH. The Riverhear gorup has on on display. A couple of others are laying about on the LIRR, such as Holban Yard. |

I have opened up right now the spiral-bound "The Official Pullman-Standard Library Volume 10, Northeast Railroads" by Dave Randall.Washboard are a definite possibility as they had that vertical corrugations up the wider window pillars. The ceiling looks exactly like an MP72, though the florescent light diffusers are a little wider, not a perfect half circle. They have the white tops on the vinyl seats too, otherwise the same seat frame as the LIRR once had. |
