R-188 crew training

I've heard some ridiculous rambling and rumors coming from various railfan sites. So let me set the record straight.

(7) line crews are currently being trained on the R-188. Each weekday, an 11-car converted R-188 leaves Corona Yard between 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM to do one round trip EMPTY for the purpose of crew training.

If you want photos, feel free to hang out on the Flushing Line some time between 10:30 and 1:30, approximately.

Current internal rumors call for IN-SERVICE testing to begin perhaps as soon as late-August or September.

But because the new signaling system is nowhere near ready, the training is really like R142 training, right? How different is the R188 in manual mode from the R142 already in use for years?

I'm sure that a BIG part of it is "See that green button there that says ATO? *DO* *NOT* *PUT* *YOUR* *FINGER* *IN* *THERE* and above all, do not push what's inside! Or it's more than just days in the street." :)

There are differences in the cab and computer that need to be shown to the crews. And Train Operators need the new key.

MDCU's are on the wall. I *believe* that the left door key there is only to enable operation of the left side panel. I couldn't imagine them being equipped without the rock'em-sock'em customer buttons. :)
