This would have made an excellent subway/LIRR/Metro North yard connected to the 63 St. Tunnel.

that was the idea,at least as far as the subway/LIRR was concerned.
a new yard/SHOP for the Queens BYPASS/LIE/SAS line..new rail yard/shop for the LIRR..

Well..where this new stuff was suppose to be built,the LIRR did manage to get it facilitates..the Subways didn't...nor did it get the new subway lines it needed for various reasons.

I never realized that two of the east river tubes crossed each other, nor did I realize that only one of the tracks leading to the lower Montauk is actually accessible from the LIRR currently (the other 2 came from yard A)
