Posted by WMATAGMOAGH on Wed May 22 16:30:39 2013 Story hereDid anyone expect it to close? I've never been to Australia but I never figured it wouldn't be there when I did make it. |

My plans for an Australia trip are for December...Ah well, I guess I'll have to content myself with CityRail and the Melbourne Light Rail/Trolleys. |

It runs in a one-way loop, so a "round-trip" involves a slow complete circuit of the line.I believe they decided the tourist novelty didn't justify the fact it was in the way of redevelopment. |

I guess if you mean in the same way an NJT LRV looks like an NYCT subway car, then yes, the Sydney monorail could be said to look like the Seattle Center monorail. |

Monorail was a money-maker light rail is a money loser.... |

I'd imagine, unless you were going three or four stops, it was annoying to try and take a round trip on it. |

When I was in Sydney in 2012 and rode the monorail, there was mention they were trying to sell the system in its entirety to an Asian buyer. Apparently that didn't materialize. |

If you can manage it, I recommend a visit to the Sydney Tramway Museum. About a 40 minute drive south of Sydney, or you can take the train, there's a station a short walk from the museum.http://www.sydneytramwaymuseum.com.au/ |
