Yup, that deal was what kept the dolans from moving both teams out of the city. So we shouldn't feel too bad for them using their own money for the renovatjons.

I certainly never did. The LIRR needs to go further west into Lower Manhattan from that location. Bad enough that the railroad retreated from the waterfront, where it was originally.

After 9/11, I suspect Penn Station if it had remained as was it would have been renovated as you suggested.

True, in the '70's and the '80's most likely the only remediation would be to block off sections to the public. But at least the station building would have survived until money to renovate it would have been available.

Something I just thought of though: who was responsible for renovating the current Penn Sta, if Amtrak is the owner?
