12-9 on the Route of the LION

LION was minding own business, which at the moment was soldering some wires on the A1 track when all of a sudden out of nowhere a subway train comes around the corner and runs into me.

Fortunately on this rail road I am bigger than the trains, so it was a simple matter to hold onto the train with one hand and push the blue power cutoff switch with the other.

Train was put back on the tracks, power was restored and the trains kept on running, and your LION kept on soldering. Shoulda had FLAG protection out there, but we are a little short handed up here. Very hard to get good help when the oil fields are paying big bucks.

Cheap railroad ... no shunting for work zones to throw the signals to red? Tsk-tsk.

Actually, for chassis work or waveguide or anything else that will make the heat go away faster than it is applied, you still need that "nug." Irons are great for small stuff, not so for big stuff ...

LION agrees. But one has to get that request past the Abbot first.

LIONS only bring $Requests that are really important. Him can replace soldering tips all month long and they do not say a word. But a NEW thing, OOOOOOOoooooo........ That is a panther of a different color!

understood. was commenting on the hardware because soldering has always been a difficult task for me. I started w/ an iron my dad had, bought myself a gun--hated them both. The station at least works most of the time. (and off rail, I have sweat soldered copper plumbing pipe successfully, but I don't enjoy it)

Nothing I enjoy more than that last tablespoon of water behind the wall steaming up and spraying the flux out as you heat it. :)

I've done a good bit of brazing copper pipe, but I've never done any soldering. Brazing is cool and all, but I just hated it when I would mess up a joint and then turn the water on. Ugh. With the advent of some of these easy to use PVC fittings, brazing is becoming a lost art.

I do like to check the joints that the fitters do on the larger black iron pipe. Nothing like true welded joints.
