Privileged, rich, entitled Manhattanites/hipsters headed to priviliged weekend destinations, most of whom are either drink or are just annoying sober. Loud talkers, cell phone abusers and a disproportionate number of uncrated pets.I rode to the Hamptons on a Friday ONCE in the summer, and it was insufferable on a midday train (the express out of Jamaica that leaves around 11:30 AM). |

I thought the extra-curriculars started upon departure from Hunterspoint ? LIRR did NOT weld the beds up. I suppose the Chelsea Boys to Sayville would take advantage of that today on one of the local trains with parlor cars. |

Crowded. noisy, luggage everywhere people weren't (sometimes where they were). If you didn't sit right near the end door, you had to fight your way out. I sometimes stood in the vestibule so I knew I'd get off in Babylon.Occasionally overfriendly males, who wanted to share a premium beer and flirtatious females weren't much compensation since I had to get home to dinner with wifey without smell of beer and perfume on me. Did I mention the cars were hot. |

In the 60s many ex LD sleepers were sold as parlor cars on that train including Amagansett which formerly graced the Capitol Limited. Seems to me that a bedroom perhaps shared w/a sweetie might be a fine way to begin a weekend away. |

On the other hand, my experiences with this involve riding 2058 on a summer Friday (which has a Greenport connection). No, most of the passengers were not drunk or a physical disturbance. No, there were no pets. Yes, the train was insanely crowded. (I don't think I've seen worse on the LIRR except in service disruptions) Yes, most passengers had luggage. Yes, the passengers were very loud and boisterous. Given that the scoot connection is only 2 cars and much more than 25% of the passengers I saw on this 12 car train seemed to be going to Greenport (luggage), I wonder what that scoot looked like. |

Yes, they can run the bi-levels with the dual-mode locomotives (DM30AC). Those locomotives (the ones that have numbers beginning with 5) can run on both third rail and diesel power, switching between the two shortly after leaving the East River Tunnels.Dual-mode runs with bi-levels happen many times each weekday during rush hours with trains to/from places like Port Jefferson, Oyster Bay, and Speonk going directly to or from Penn Station. |
