I never rode the 63rd street tunnel, or the new extensions of the J line and E and F trains to Archer Avenue. I have never seen the New Lots yards in it's entirety. Only saw it from a distance in 1962. I'm not too familiar with the Pitkin or 36th street yards. I'm familiar with all the rest. |

SIR gets a little interesting south of Eltingville as everything is more spread out and Tottenville Station ends steps from the water. You're not missing much in Bay Ridge, at least not right now. Woodlawn is also worth seeing as the northern end suggests being outside NYC (which you practically are). |

Go for the 7 express out to Main St, especially now while you have the railfan window option. The upper tracks above 111 St station offer great views. And you should try to make at least one trip to see the "Flats" (that long stretch from Howard Beach to Broad Channel) and the Rockaways once they are back up and running. |

Just realized I never answered the original question.I've covered the entire NYC subway and SIR. On LIRR I'm missing: -Both stops in Long Island City, including the diesel track from there to Jamaica -St Albans -Montauk line past Mastic-Shirley -Entire Far Rockaway line past Valley Stream -Entire Long Beach and West Hempstead lines -Central Connection from Bethpage to Babylon -Port Jefferson Station (been as far as Stony Brook) -Everything past Ronkonkoma to Greenport -Oyster Bay line north of Roslyn On Metro North I'm even worse. I'm missing: -Entire Hudson Line and everything west of Hudson -Harlem line north of White Plains -New Haven line east of Darien and all side branches I'm sure I'll get to most if not all of these within a few years, but lately I've been working on something much trickier: trying to get on every bus route in NYC. |

Oh wait- I need to clarify when I said I was talking about only parts in existence today. I meant I was only listing places that exist today where I haven't been. While I did in fact, unfortunately miss the L train snaking over Snediker Ave.,I have seen and used the now closed platforms at Canal St & Bowery. Also, I don't think I've been on the A between Rockaway Blvd & Lefferts. In 1999, I did a tremendous amount of railfanning, and I continued to do until 2003 or so. Then, my job takes me to a lot of different places, so except as noted, I've seen most of the currently existing system, as well Bowery & Canal before the platforms were closed off. Among the parts that disappeared in my lifetime (born 1968), I missed almost all of them- the Myrtle & (Bronx) Third Avenue Els, the Culver Shuttle, the last 5 stations on Jamaica Avenue, and even Dean Street on the Franklin. I don't remember ever riding the South Ferry shuttle, but it's possible that I did, as we went there when I was a kid. |
