All depends on where it goes. I've done 25kV and better many times, but that was from the ultor cap of a color TV CRT. Sure wakes you up. :)I've done 465kV, but that was in a mesh suit from a helicopter. It merely tickled. It's when it passes through your body that it's lights out. Knew electricians that would check for blown fuses by wetting their fingers and touching each one until they got a zitz. Then they'd change it. |

I've gotten 16KV at about 6 Amps while troubleshooting a hot 50KW AM transmitter by accidentally brushing against the unit's high voltage line in the PA cabinet. Knocked me across the room. That was about 35 years ago when transmitters used tubes rather than solid state amplifiers. I still have the scar on my wrist. I've also been knocked on my butt by lightning a couple times during storms at FM transmitter sites. I wouldn't recommend either. It ain't fun... |

Long gone, replaced with a nice Philips. :)WRGB's old wreck was also a piece of "wonder", but Fred Lass on the ass several times. Yeah, best lightshow I ever had to clean up though was a POS Comark on top of Illinois mountain ... external cavity with a TX operator who had no clue as to how to stagger-tune or what 0 meant on the nitrogen gauge and then wondered why sparks were shooting out of the ports up top when it rained. Heh. 5MW ERP. Now THEM'S some sparks! Fred retired, Sarge Cathrall did too, and Skeeter's on his way out the door as well. Rich Klein wants out as well. All the oldheads going byebye. Can't say I blame them with the kiddie shows in charge of all the places these days. Ah, the days when that blue paper in a frame was worth the crap you had to endure. But as bad as those GE's were, there's nothing like the bite out of an old Collins when the mod transformer decided to let go. :) |

They *shouldn't* be given that the shoes are for DC, up top is for AC and there are changeover switches. However, any electrician will tell you to NEVER trust a connector unless you see the wire from it dangling in the air connected to nothing. :) |

No I would not want to have them place a ladder or an IV line, but we do ask them to hold sheets to offer privacy, or will ask one of them to keep pedestrians at bay, we would not ask anybody to direct traffic. In this situation, they could be asked to sit with someone who needs help, or perhaps lead them off of the viaduct to a safer location.ROAR |

NYS DMV rule - you can drive the fire truck TO the scene without a CDL, but you can't bring it back home. :)Given the timing in the video though, I was cringing at the thought that those lookenspeepers might slow down vehicles getting to the scene by being in the way. Once everybody's there, different story as long as you remain OUT of the way unless called upon. That was my main concern there. As to the rest, it's amazing how many folks want to hold the fire hose once it's laid out. Heh. |
