Interesting Find

I found an urban explorer website. While browsing I found photos of an abandoned IND area. It appears to be a Second System area, but does not say where it is. There are also photos of the abandoned side of the Centre Street Subway. Anyone know where this abandoned Second System area is?

It's a nice bunch of photos. But if it doesn't say where, it's difficult to discuss it. Saying Centre Street Subway is fine. But without knowing where, the thread will eventually get flammed. It's happened before.

As for that "It got buried in literal shit about who said what", the topic was good before he kept bothering me about something I was not talking to him about.

Anyway's, I wish those pics were bigger. :/

Wouldn't that station just be a closed off area from an existing station...? I know one other station(half built, no tiles, NOTHING) was found.

From the ramp east of the booth there is a ramp and passageway and at the end of it you can get a glimse of the unused platform. I don't know if there is another exit down there.

If you go to the main index, you can find all sorts of subway stuff. Some are abandoned, and others active. I found the 63rd St. Broadway side, and the City Hall Lower Level. I also found a layup area that appears to be the tracks beyond 179th Street. Maybe this guy will find 76th street! LOL!!!

I worked for NYCTA back in the 70's and I had no idea it was there either. "Douce" says you can still see it from near one of the booths in another reply here, so maybe it's worth an outing. You won't get up there, but maybe you can peer with a flashlight and make the cops nervous. :)

The point I was making is that maybe somebody does know, and could shed some light on it. I had a feeling that those pics I asked about were Roosevelt, but didn't want to assume that they were. That is why I asked, and got the answer I was looking for. It also provides us with some pics that we have never seen before. So exactly what part of that is pointless?

I don't think it's Roosevelt Ave. From the unused platform to the mezzazine is a ramp. Not a staircase.
And when you actually get to see the tiled walls from the long passageway, I think you're at the N/E of the station. I think when you get to the top of the ramp. you're at the S/E and the bumper blocks are behind the walls.

You're RIGHT ... You might remember those guys from subtalk - the Russian kid and the spraypainters a few years ago - that's who did those. I thought from the description and knowing the site that Ian had caught the "Roosevelt" station shell but these photos (now that I waited for it all to load) aren't it ...

The center railing and token booth says "IRT" and we can be sure that it ain't 91st, and it ain't 18th ... maybe it's the remains of the old BMT MYRT station perhaps? It doesn't look IND ...

Not near a booth.
From the booth that used to be on the mezzazine level, you walk past where the HEETS were, Up a ramp and walk down a pssageway. At the end of the passageway there is a small fence and behind it is the tiled subway wall.

It might be worth it for an outing. Not a whole group. Just 1-2 people. If you're asked what you're doing back there, Just say you're looking for the employee's toilet.

I noticed no gaps in the booth numbers at Roosevelt and at Elmhurst. So I don't think there is a booth back there.

Heh. Like I just said to "Douce" that ISN'T Roosevelt ... looks "IRT" to me and the cemented-over entrances ... well, 91st and 18th come to mind, but neither of those has lowers or mezzanines ... might be the abandoned BMT Myrt, could also be an abandoned station somewhere on the lower east side although none come to mind. Probably Brooklyn ...

And I *know* the LTV squad ain't around anymore so can't ask them. A couple of them used to hang out on subtalk but got tired of taking insults from others and vanished. :(

About the ONLY place you might even find out would be the "Fun Factory" is it? There's a "grafitti museum" near Astoria/LIC somewhere where these kids hung out ... maybe someone there might know ...

I'm leaning more and more towards IRT despite the TILES looking so IND and BMT. The STAIR railings as well as the shape of the stairs ... the SAD part though is that I knew a couple of those kids casually and for THIS one, nobody's going to be there like the mystery photos to answer within ... a lifetime perhaps.

SO ... I'm going to say it's SEVENTY-SIXTH STREET. (grin)

Anyway, the pictures on the site are both nice and extremely disturbing. The disturbing part is they can get into the places without being detected or seriously challenged.

Call me paranoid, an alarmist or whatever (OK you can stop now) but it is difficult enough being a railfan and getting the powers that be to take us seriously and accept us without those clowns doing illegal trespassing and boasting about it to the world (wide web).

It doesn't. But Urban Explorers do not reflect negatively upon railfans, as you seemed to be suggesting. Railfans are very much out in the open and deal with the powers that be when necessary. Urban explorer just do what they want and don't care about anything. So I don't think that Railfans would get trouble from the powers that be because of the actions of urban explorers.
