If the platform gap fillers can operate (pneumatically), then they can throw, block and clamp the switches, that is unless they ruined that portion of the IRT and removed the A-10 air engines with electric ones that won't work since the maintainers were still working in the T/D booth in the video. They maybe can still be cranked by hand but if the control lines were removed due to salt water, RCC can't see those trains anyway so they are not in a real hurry to do much more than keep Cuomo happy and get the first five cars opening again. See what happens in the next few months when they start writing their crazy G.O.s |

Wow kinda wierd they are connecting the old station to the mezzanine, but also good in a way because for instance if a GO other than of coarse this came up, this station can be used and obviously keeping the transfer to the R! Another thing is also the old entrance which you could gain access through the Ferry terminal was very narrow! Now I don't know what they will do for handicapped access, but its good what they did here! |

Now I don't know what they will do for handicapped accessAs for entering the station, it's as trivial as building a ramp. As for boarding the train, a platform conductor with a bridge plate, perhaps? |

If the old station were restored to use as a passenger stop with the same capacity as it had before it closed in 2009, would there need to be any rush hour 1 trips canceled or short turned? |

I was wondering if the gap fillers were flush enough with the train for simple wheelchair boarding. I don't recall.Never mind, I just checked an old video I took. There's a slight gap still, and a sizable height difference. |

They're taking down that unused storage room at the leaving end of the old station, which happens to be right next to the infamous door to the new station's mezzanine. I suppose this is how they will widen the passage. |

Better would be how I would do it:Keep both stations and do whatever ADA access is necessary at Bowling Green (which would be a good idea anyway) so the Lexington line can use the old loop station once the current station can start taking the (1) again. To me, it's worth doing so SI riders have the option on weekdays of taking the BG-SF shuttle to BG or walking and in off-hours (and most weekends) being able to take the (6) (and when not running to Brooklyn, the (5) as well) from old SF directly uptown without having to walk to BG switch from the (R) at Canal or 14th Street. |

Ok, is it me or does it really make sense to spend money on a temporary stop gap that is going to be closed again? When you can take the money and resources being used here and maybe divert them to the new South Ferry station to maybe get a quicker return time? |

Yes, considering how long the regular station will be out of action, and how it doesn't seem that much to get the new station back in shape. You're also assuming that the resources and money will help the regular station back in shape. |

From a previous message: "The 5 is running in a huge loop, down 7 Av, around SF, and back up Lex. The 2 is running to/from Flatbush both ways. "In previous additions of this kind of G.O. - when #5 trains ran down 4th Seventh Avenue (from the Bronx), around South Ferry, and then back up to the Bronx via the Lexington Avenue line - #2 trains from Brooklyn running to the Bronx ran their normal route and tracks. That is that #2 ran down Lexington (from the Bronx) - traveling just like a #5 train to Brooklyn. Unless stations like Park Place, Fulton Street or Wall Street were closed - it was the uptown #2 trains that provided at least some service - unless those stations were closed. If - because it is not clear in this stream of messages - if the #2 train is running solely on Lexington Avenue in both directions (uptown and downtown) by #2 trains - then some stations are closed for that period. Really just wondering. Mike |
