Ready for SMEE on the (6)?

A full train of R-62A cars was transferred from Corona Yard to Westchester Yard. It may see limited service this week during the rush. The cars will utilize the same circle/diamond LED's, and will likely never be returning to the (7).

Good hunting.

And as I type, I have just confirmed it will be in service for the PM rush tomorrow. Should be running as a <6> in Pelham Bay Park service.

GO GO GO GO GO

Did they put Transverses in the C/R Position.

I guess an 142/188 will be in service on the (7) real soon.

It should have transverse cabs on all ends.

This move is not directly related to the R-188s going into service. The (6) is just a tad short right now, so they're taking an early delivery.

I have not been looking forward to this.

I am sure the crews are not happy and the passengers will be even less happy than the train crews.

We were so used to riding the nice technology trains.

I wonder how many T/Os have to qualify or re-quality to operate double handle trains.

When they were sent to Flushing in the first place,at the time the R-33-36s were getting the boat ride. They were used goods then too, no? I think the Flushing line holds the distinction of being the only line in the system having its entiire fleet replaced by used cars when the R62a s replaced the St Louis cars

The Flushing Line seemed to always have the oldest cars. Thye had the oldest Lo-V's (4024-4036), the oldest SMEES (after 1956) and the oldest EL cars. (Some of the old 6-1111-6 el cars were built in 1878!

74-something is at East 180th Street Yard for some sort of testing along with the 188s. On top of that, a new SMS program is starting for the R-142A's before they get converted, so Westchester is a little short.

I agree with Ian. According to Joe Korman’s site, the #4 and #7 are assigned almost exactly the same number of cars, 410 vs 409, but the #6 is assigned 460. This means that if all of Corona’s R62A cars are transferred to Westchester yard, Westchester would have to maintain a mix of R62A and R142A cars. However if Corona’s cars are transferred to the 4, and Jerome yard’s R142 and 142A’s transferred to Westchester, then Jerome, which already maintains 20 R62A cars for the 42 St shuttle, would be 100% R62A, while Westchester would maintain two much more similar R142 & 142A fleets, simplifying maintenance at both yards. Also, the 4 makes fewer stops than the 6, especially along Lexington Av, so the narrower door openings would be less of a problem.

You're the man in the know, so a big THANK YOU is in order!

7481-85 are at the East, I was starting to wonder if they were testing the compatibility of cars that are CBTC equipped versus cars that don't have it? Is that plausible?

Can anyone here also tell me how the R188's are supposed to be grouped? I was under the impression that for the first 5 car set to be delivered (7811-15), a 6 car unit would follow (7816-21), then another 5 car unit would come after that (7822-26)? Is that the case?

Someone reported 7816-20 being on the property, but then this would be strictly a 5 car set. If I do the math the right way, and Kawasaki does a group of 5 car units first, then 7811-50 would be the 40 cars assembled. 7851-98, which equals 48, would be in 6 car groupings. There's supposed to be 88 complete R188's, then the 38 add-ons for the converted R142A's.
