since the cars have been outside for years (both in San Diego and El Paso) in their operating days I suspect they could be put back in service if some transit system would buy them for very little money.

I ask because of these two lines in the article. Plus I thought the desert is supposed to preserve things.

A city appraisal values the streetcars at $6,000 each for museum use.

It estimates that it would cost twice as much to restore a classic streetcar as it would to purchase a replica – $2.2 million rather than $1.2 million.

any human who chooses to be monolingual is a moron. Being fluent in several languages increases your ability to communicate in any of them.

I'd love to be fluent in multiple languages, but no one wants them. Federal government is looking for a couple dozen spanish speakers for it's call center.
Greeks need not apply I guess.

actually, they are useful in many situations. In Berkeley w/ a significant foreign student contingent and tourists, foreign fluency can make the sale in retail shopping. Far more critical is medicine. A doctor friend who works in Vancouver is slowly working to add Mandarin to his palette (has Spanish, French, German, some Russian). Makes him very useful in the ER I only have French and some Spanish, the latter highly useful in CA.

That said, for your own brain, there are studies showing bilingual persons resist Alzheimers longer than monolinguals.
