PHOTOS : More R-32s For Ya'!!!!
Posted by Train Man Paul : Metro-North's Best Conductor FOR ALL 3 LINES!!! on Mon Aug 6 09:08:11 2012 Just a few more R-32s I scrounged up, this time on the Lefferts Blvd stretch of the A Line!! Enjoy!! It was indeed hazy, hot and humid and there indeed as some catch-worthy A Line action plying about in the "Triple-H" (Hazy Hot Humid) summer time weather!!These were from 111th-Greenwood Avenue and 104th-Oxford Avenue stations. 2 10-car consists of R-32s laid up on K-3/4 Track It snakes on as far as the eye can see!!! Here comes some more R-32s Off to Lefferts Side by side with R-46 At 104th-Oxford, the R-32s are face-to-face up close at "60-Ball" (Home signal K3-557 X60) on Track K3/4 Using a Metro-North term...."Up Close, No Hitch!!" Starting at "60-Ball" with the 3548...... The all-mighty, unsinkable R-32s go on and on and on!!! Love them good ol' roll signs!! And the old school "M" logo hidden juuuuuuuust behind the anal new school logo And for 2 non R-32 shots......just typical R-46s!!! What's missing here on this Brooklyn and Manhattan-bound "Apple"???? When they go back to the C line there will be 144 being used on C. 2. They are expected to start replacing them 2016-2017 at best. Depending on what happens with the SAS and the R46s they might stick around a little while, but I will wait until we get closer to the 2016 date.

Some time to get some quality riding then .... Last rode one on the C in the rush our in November 2008 , "real" trains (like our fast dissapearing A stock in London - 1961 build - only 4 left and gone after the Olympics - sob !) They have lasted really well - and the rehab in the 80's was money very well spent.

In my honest railbuff/railroader/transit pro opinion, these are by far the BEST cars the B Division has running, and ever has running!! GREAT acceleration, and when they are working as they should EXCELLENT A/C, the doors are fast and responsive, clear PAs, and though the brakes can come on a little rough when she is flyin' along, this train stops on a dime!! These are priceless cars!! :-) Just my 2 cents!!

Hello "Train Man"-Made it out to "Hamilton Beach" yesterday afternoon for a bit and was able to photograph several R-32 trainsets,some R-46s,but the "Icing on the cake" were the not one,but two R-42 consists that were running in "Far Rockaway" service.Sorry i cant share,as my photos were taken on "Analog" Slide Film...Thanks for posting your photos once again,as these provided the "Kick Start" that i needed to get "Trackside"...

In terms of mileage and operating conditions, you cannot compare the two, the R-32s are true survivors. But in similarity to both, it shows the goodness, strength, durability and longevity of Budd equipment.

Thank you, Jim!! :-) As for the horn, there are quite a number of R-32s which have horns mounted on the bulkhead above the motorman's cab. I think faced to the side and placed there would seem to be a better place for it rather than forward facing and underneath the carbody. No worries about the horn getting choked up by snow and ice and tunnel and steel dust and grime.
