But he shouldn't have to go through a complex dance like you describe, and certainly shouldn't have to leave the train. I don't know just how he asked them to quiet down - he certainly could have done so in a reasonably polite way - but at any rate, there is no excuse for him being stabbed, and no reasonable way he could have anticipated that that would be the result. That doesn't make the culprits "mutants", it does make them criminals. Until he was attacked, they were simply people behaving boorishly. But if no one says anything when confronted by such behavior, it only encourages it. |

This is why CCTV cameras are a must in every subway car. SOme argue that it would not help or who would be monitoring them etc. If the cameras were there and an advertising campaign informed the riders that they would be there, then criminals would think twice due to the fact that someone could be watching the camera and there could be NYPD waiting on the platform on the next station for the train to arrive with the criminal on board. Cameras would also cut down on other quality of life offenses. |

I used to think like you and still agree to a point, but when there are such a large number of inconsiderate and unbehaved people it's rather Quixotesque to attempt to change everyone's behavior. I figure that it would accomplish little other than frustrating me. Besides it sometimes feels like I'm the one with the problem as all around me behave inconsiderately. I'm the one that doesn't fit it. NYC may not be as bad as LA...or maybe it's worse. What do I know? |
