Los Angeles MTA to run later weekend trains (2am) |
|
|
Posted by Easy on Sun Jul 15 21:03:09 2012 The last trains on Friday and Saturday will leave at 2am or later. The last Orange line bus will leave at 2:40 to meet the last red line train and the last green line train will leave at 2:20 after meeting the (next to?) last blue line train that arrives at 2:10.Service will be at least every 20 minutes between midnight and 2am, which until a few months ago was the regular evening headway after 7:30pm. But now the red, purple, and blue lines run every 10 minutes every night until the close of service, which is also great! I think that LA now has one of the latest operating trains, not only in the US, but in the world. Even in London, Paris, Tokyo, etc trains end earlier. LA Weekly The Source |

My guess is that ridership has increased by 25% or more during that time period, but with the 100% increase in service it's not really noticeable. Typically trains are 25-50% full from what I've seem. Some a little more, some almost empty. |

Weird that we're increasing service to never before seen levels while other agencies are still under cuts. Our late night service is more frequent than Atlanta's rush hour service. It's also later and iinm more frequent than DC, which is by almost any measure a much busier system and in a town that works and plays later than we do in LA. |

Actually I think that we go to work earlier and don't stay out as late as east coast cities partly because of the time difference (so much is based on what happens back east), and partly because people out here are more into outdoors activities than back east. But whatever the reason, it's very noticeable. Our rush hour starts earlier and people here leave clubs at a time when most in NYC would be arriving. |

I've noticed that as well, which is one of the reasons why I'd rather be on this coast even if it's the worst time zone on the planet (as far as Asia goes) ... |

The San Diego Trolley runs (or at least used to) run all-night service on the Blue Line (San Ysidro) on Saturday nights. But that's one night on one line vs. 7 day extended service on multiple lines at LACMTA. |
