I thought that show was called "Florence" but I guess that's just what I called it. It was actually called "Checking In". I remember that she played the same character as on the Jeffersons and got a job at a hotel in charge of housekeeping. Her boss was Larry Linville who had just left M*A*S*H. I remember that he played a graduate of Colgate University because she made some crack about his degree and toothpaste. According to the IMDb she left that series and returned to the Jeffersons until it went off the air. |

The character was clearly autistic, but had some areas of ability far beyond the norm, making him what's commonly known as an idiot savant. Also, autism is a medical diagnosis that covers a pretty broad spectrum, ranging from being unable to read cues and therefore not able to react socially appropriately (something that is noticeable in certain unnamed members of the Subchat community), to complete incapacity to interact with the outside world at all.
