Posted by Sand Box John on Sat Jun 30 15:28:01 2012 The double crossover east of the junction will be a separate interlocking, meaning there are signals protecting the west entrance of the double crossover east of the junction and signals protecting the facing points of the Junction west of the double crossover. The layout is basically the same as L'Enfant Plaza, only difference being there is only 1 track circuit between double crossover and junction on each track track, L'Enfant Plaza has 3.The Falls Church yard lead tunnel is done. Contractor was back filling the excavation. The entrance pavilions are starting to come up out of the ground, Tysons McLean being furthest along. None of the architectural precast concrete facade panels have been installed at the Greensboro station. The contractor has not begun assembling the arched mezzanine / platform canopies at any of the stations in Tysons Corner. Short platforms at both ends of the Spring Hill station cantilever past the columns that support the ends of the station platform to reach the backsides of the emergence exit stair structure. Rail has been pulled west to the Spring Hill station on outbound track N2, just short of the station on inbound track N1. Lifting gantry #2 is presently working in the Median of the Dulles Access Road. Only 4 spans are left to be built east to the west abutment. Rail is staged in median of the Dulles Access Road to about a 1/4 west of the abutment. Inbound track N1 has been laid from the west end Wiehle Avenue Pocket to a point east of Trap Road, outbound track N2 has been laid from point roughly 1/4 east of the Wiehle Avenue overpass a point east of Trap Road. All of the traction power substation and train control rooms along the Dulles Access road are in place. The signaling and train control contractor was working in the area of the junction when I visited the area. Below are a selected few of the pictures I took, The remainder can be seen at: DCMP 06 23 2012 K and N Junction. Idylwood Road Track N1 cable trench. Tysons McLean entrance pavilion. Tysons McLean emergency exit. Tysons Corner entrance pavilion. Greensboro east ancillary mezzanine. Greensboro north entrance pavilion and elevator pits. Greensboro west ancillary. Spring Hill mezzanine west emergency exit. Spring Hill south entrance pavilion. Spring Hill mezzanine west emergency exit. VA-7 Leesburg Pike Tyco Road double crossover. VA-267 Dulles Toll / Access Road post-tension lifting gantry #2. VA-267 Dulles Toll / Access Road post-tension lifting gantry #2. VA-267 Dulles Toll / Access Road post-tension lifting gantry #2. 14 wheel truck crane west abutment. VA-267 Dulles Toll / Access Road Beulah Road traction power substation train control room. Wiehle Avenue ancillary Track N2. Wiehle Avenue ancillary. Wiehle Avenue pocket track. John in the sand box of Maryland's eastern shore. |

I can't wait to see what angles can be had from the station platforms and entrance pedestrian bridges. John in the sand box of Maryland's eastern shore. |

Which interlocking is this? The junction near WFC?If you look at my 129 mile regional system track schematic you will notice there is a new double crossover east of the new K&N junction. I had envisioned that there would be no signals between the double crossover and the junction turnouts due to their close proximity to each other. Notice to 2 signal heads with bags over them on the left, those signals protect the west entrance into the double crossover, under the bridge to the right you can see the signal with bag over it that will protect the facing side of the junction turnout for inbound track K1.

Thanks for the clarification. I see no reason for them not to have a signal at each part of the interlocking, are there other setups in the Metrorail system that don't have a signal at each switch? |
