Maybe ENY took only 10 back, not all 20.If they insist on running them on the A, restrict to the Rockaway Park Specials so one round trip per weekday (to just 168th ?) Could be the R32 SMS is improving their shop margin. They should do the Fresh Pond set as well and scrap an R42 set instead. I do not think all the R44SI's will last until the R211 and some or all will have to be replaced by R46's, which means some R32's should be retained beyond 2017. |

Depends on the road conditions. Most dispatchers wil try to take the older equipment off, but sometimes it is not possible. |

I'm sure they try to take the old stuff off the road on the midnights, but that is not always possible.Late at night, I don't think there are many lay-ups from Far Rock.; there may be a GO uptown where the A is terminating @ 168 with a shuttle beyond it; inspections or barn requests on the south end for an R46 could may it necessary to run a 32 or 42 all night; late PM at 207 they must send 46's to Lefferts on certain intervals so they have something to cut for midnight OPTO........so many factors. I'm sure the c/r's would rather have the security of an R46 against the wall to Far Rock on the midnights too! BTW: those 42's do look hideous. I am so used to seeing them on the J, but when I see them on the A, they look sooooooooo much more beat up! |

I understand need trumps all, but you can do some things that would minimize trains like this being used outside peak use times. There are at least 8 AM runs to/from Rock Park/Lefferts Blvd that end at either 168th or Dyckman and then lay up. IIRC, the afternoon trains to Rock Park run light to 59th and then automatically lay up. These are ideal runs for the older, beat up trains. |

True, but there is a rotation to lay up different cars to 207 YD daily since they like to have every car in the fleet go thru the car wash at least once a week.At 207 YD, there are more A trains laid up during the day than there is at night, so these are washed during the day. They wash the C and the #1 fleet at night. |
