Law and Order Subway Episode |
|
Posted by randyo on Tue Jun 12 03:17:56 2012 I just finished watching the opening scenes of a Law and Order episode involving a shooting on board a supposed IND subway train. The first view shows a train of R-42 approaching. As the "same" train passes by, it morphs into a train of IRT redbirds. As the train arrives at the next station it has now become an R-32. A female passenger changes to a train across the platform which is an R-38. As the train she just boarded is leaving the station it has now miraculously become a slant R-40. Between stations it has suddenly transformed into an R-62 and when the shooting occurs it has returned to being an R-38. I know that the NYCT can't always supply the same train for all the scenes but it should certainly be able to do better than such widely divers types of equipment as appeared in that one scene especially since the trains shown were on completely different divisions. |

There was an episode of The Good Wife that had an R-68 standing in for a Chicago 'L' car. I love the various fails when pretending to be WMATA (and DC in general; here's a clue: THERE ARE NO 20+ STORY BUILDINGS WITHIN THE DISTRICT LIMITS, so there are no 50-story glass towers next to the Capitol or White House. Union Station here does not look at all like Union Station LA or any railway station in Canada). The city is situated on the Potomac *RIVER* not a bay or ocean. And we have gently rolling hills to the west and north, NOT BIG, CRAGGY MOUNTAINS). |

LACMTA must make a mint renting out their trains, stations etc. for TV and movie shoots. Red (and Purple) lines mostly, but I've seen the Blue and Green Lines used (and in the case of "Collateral", both LOL). Even the Gold Line (Pasadena segment) made a brief appearance in last year's Lincoln Lawyer (although it was just a train appearing in the background, don't know if the producers had to set that up w/ MTA, or if they just set up cameras and filmed). |

Kevin xxxxxx is running away in DC runs down in to a WMATA station--maybe Foggy Bottom, and cut to him shot from below entering a Baltimore station (no Sunday service easy to set up) The station entrance was into the non existent Georgetown station. Georgetown Park was used as the location for the station entrance. Then there was film "The Man With One Red Shoe". Dabney Coleman is following Tom Hanks into the north entrance of the Dupont Circle station, next shot is Tom Hanks on the platform of a Baltimore Metro station. I was waking past the north entrance to the Dupont Circle station when the production company was preparing to shoot that seen. John in the sand box of Maryland's eastern shore. |

I think Kojak was the first show I watched when I realized they actually filmed in L. A. The episode aired after I had visited L. A. for the first time, so I was able to spot the SCRTD bus in the background. :) (Also took the Universal Studio tour while out there, where they pretty much admitted they filmed in L. A.) |

Some years back, in an orange juice commerical, two guys take an R62/62A to the "Florida" station, which was done up in a VERY credible 1930s IND scheme...except the name plate background tiles were orange and green!!! Whoever did the work on that one obviously knew a good deal about the subway!!I also saw a commercial, I can't even remember what it was for, but someone takes a train to the "Moab Station", which was clearly Lexington/53rd...(or based on Lex/53) |

I think that was a different episode (Tabula Rasa), in which the PATH train was obviously used as a stand-in for the #1 train.SVU was filmed in New Jersey and used the PATH as a subway stand-in extensively, including the infamous episode where a man had his penis cut off on the platform at Exchange Place. |

They simply mashed Subway footage and used Hoyt-Schermerhorn, trying to have that pass for 23rd Street as I recall. This was the second-ever episode of the series to air and was filmed in early 1990 as it was originally supposed to be part of an eight-episode "mini season" at the end of the 1989-'90 TV season before being pushed back to the following fall. |
