If they jumped with enough momentum to fall into the local track, an approaching train could have hit them and gone BIE, possibly endangering those passengers. At least it would have caused a disruption in service. |

It encourages imitators to repeat the dangerous act.Who knows? Those imitators might not make it. They might jump from a position where the third rail is at the far end of the jump. |

Not that I really care for what they did but what's with people and posting ridiculous things like this on YouTube? It's bad enough they even did it period but they'd be better off just keeping this to themselves. This made it onto AM NY this morning as well. |

Too bad the morons missed the third rail. Yes Darwin award material. Only drawback is, they might delay some trains cleaning up the mess. |

But now that I think about it, but there are other dangers. If it's an el and they miss, they might get their foot caught between the ties. And though unlikely, if the platform on the far end is too narrow, they might be moving too fast and keep going right into the active track. So to use an el it would need to be over a concrete part (like where the 'stationhouse' is) with some large obstacle like a bench or map on the opposite side. With the IRT consideration I thought a weekend at 3rd av on the 6 might have been the 'safest' (in terms of avoiding becoming rail-kill), but I don't know how much warning there is that a train is approaching on the express track. 9th ave is slow going no matter what direction you approach from or on what track. The only true safe spot for these shenanigans is no longer... Myrtle-Wyckoff middle on the M, over the stationhouse. |

If you drive there are risks. If you play sports, there are risks. If you climb mountains, there are risks. The difference is that the risks involved in those activities are lessened by safety precautions such as air bags, helmets with chin guards, safety harnesses, safety rules/laws and especially training. |
