This is a real institution, located at 47 Fifth Avenue. When she arrives at the reading session, she tells the audience that she'll be reading a short essay that she literally wrote on the subway on her way over - but hastens to add that the train was "delayed for a long time at Canal Street" so she had plenty of time.Hannah lives in Greenpoint and went directly to the reading session from her apartment. The most logical route to the Salmagundi Club would be the G to the L, and then the L to Union Square. No routing that would pass through Canal Street makes any sense, especially since Hannah was in a hurry to get to the reading session. My blog |

Maybe there was a weekend G.O. on the L - no Manhattan service. So she took the G to Hoyt, then the E to W 4th St (8th St exit) and walked from there to the club. It makes sense. |

It makes sense.Could be, though I got the impression that the scene happened on a weekday. But I can't be sure. One correction, Hannah did not leave for the reading session from her apartment, which is at an unstated location in Greenpoint, but from her new job at Cafe Grumpy, which is a real coffee house located on Meserole Street in Greenpoint. As it's a few blocks from Nassau Avenue on the G the G -->L -->Union Square route would still make sense absent a G.O. My blog |

Even if there were a problem with the L, the next most direct route would pass through Midtown, G > 7 > 4/5/6.Unless she likes to take joyrides on the subway... |
