Was on 1006 this morning, on the east end facing Hoboken. Pans were raised at MSU. I'm going out to look for it tonight

Awesome! Can't wait to see them in NYP on a RVL line train someday, perhaps they can send some NEC or NJCL trains to HOB to make space lol.

Still not approved by Amtrak for operation on the Newark Division, eh.

Especially if you think NEC or NJCL riders will allow themselves to be pushed off to a secondary, inconvenient terminal like Hoboken.

You want that thing laying down and screwing up everything? Besides, there's no single revenue run it can make where it can run as a diesel and then electric into NYP.

IIRC, that's the 7:24 out of Lake Hopatcong. That train is usually used on #1001 in the afternoon, though there's no guarantee that will happen today.

They could combine some of the Montclair Direct trips with trains going west to Boonton et cetera, for a start. Then they could combine (or recombine?) some of the former PRR runs that they split into two trains, that used to have the "Shore Direct" engine change (yeah, NJT forgot how to do those, what a shocker) that are now Long Branch express trains that meet shuttles.

I was sort of being sarcastic, situation kinda reminds me of Atlantic Terminal/NYP situation over on the LIRR.

During Rush hour all the Electric lines (Except for PW) has runs outta AT which is a secondary, inconvenient, terminal.

Whenever Amtrak allows these engines to run on their trackage its gonna be cool to see three different DM engines in NYP (ALP-45DP, the P32s on the Empire trains, and the DM the LIRR operates though there during rush hour).

But, AFAIK there are no longer any daytime combos. They've cut service to the bone out there and only the thru trains to Hoboken actually run in WORMland.

Yet I still know people who take trains into NYP and use the 1/2/3/A/C/E to get to downtown.

On the NEC, 22% go to NWK, 1% go to HOB, 12% are local
On the NJCL, 23% go to NWK, 6% go to HOB, 19% are local.

100% of the NEC service goes to Manhattan, but only 70% of the riders do. It is not necessary to send them all to Manhattan, but isolating the minority onto a non-NY Bound train would be difficult.

Remember though, those "local" riders have their seats re-used by people who are bound for NY... also the NWK departures have their seats taken by people from RVL and the Erie lines...

Right, but peak load point is still west of Newark. RVL and Bergen line passengers to NYPS are less than what get off NEC + NJCL trains at Newark. Only 38% of the RVL and 27% of the Bergen lines' passengers go to NYPS.
