Some 770 people had to get off their trains and walk through tunnels Wednesday evening because of a stranded train on the Jubilee Line. The line is a critical artery for the Olympics, which start July 27 and end Aug. 12. Officials said yesterday that affected passengers would receive 40 pounds ($62) in compensation. Officials apologized, but the problems underlined concerns about whether London’s vast and aging subway system will be able to cope with the influx of tourists and spectators coming to the Olympics. |
