Are the ARR's F40PHs powered or being used as the local equivalent of Amtrak's Cabbages? Or are they just there to provide HEP? It seems odd they'd put a second HEP engine on a train hauled by a (presumably) HEP equipped SD70MAC, but it does sound like the MAC's performance with one truck inverter given over to supplying hotel power has been less than stellar.And it's always good to see a use for a Gallery car that doesn't involve it inconveniencing thousands of commuters a day. |

It was pretty muddy down at Talkeenta and the conductor has to manually line the switches. I guarantee you that shined boots wouldn't stay shiny for long! |

I only took one ARR trip when I was in Alaska on the Glacier Discovery (and I got some photos at other places) but the rail-car tunnel was pretty neat, we did get to go through it on that train too. |
