Pick one

Vancouver is one the few parts of Canada that you can pick *both*. The rest of Canada does have its charms though. :-)

Great photos.

Are the black 300 series cars a newer version of the Mark II equipment? Wikipedia seems to suggest they are...

IIRC, yes, they're the newer version where the main differences are the addition of the LED screens in front indicating the routing and the switch to 2 X 1 seating to allow for more standees. Any future stock will most likely be based on the Mark III designs, and an order may have to come soon for the so-called Evergreen Line extension to Port Coquitlam, and there are rumours of additional cars being ordered to create 5 car sets to maximize platform space and increase capacity.

Nice photos. But I don't see the allure of five rails and the rigid structure the LIM rail requires. I just don't see the great benefit in eliminating the rotary motors. If automated metros are the future, then the Canada Line and so on seem more likely to be the way forward rather than this overgrown peoplemover.

And here I thought the whole idea behind these fancy automated metros was that they could reduce headways rather than increase train lengths to increase capacity. Surely if they are indeed the best place on earth they'd make it more convenient for their riders before investing capital.
