SLV-First RFS Ride

So, going into Uni Citi yesterday on the Media Elwyn I caught my first RFS on an SLV. I whipped out the ole i-Phone.

That's Arsenal's distant signal ahead displaying approach - yellow over red - probably one of the ga-zillion airport trains crossing over ahead of us.

But we got the railroad back before we got to the home signal and we flew into University City.

Bonus: Engineer was riding with the cab door open! Here we are with the controller in coast; the brake in release, 40 mph (MAS at Arsenal) on the digital speedo and a clear cab signal aspect.
Way up at the top of my photo, you can see a sliver of white. That's a piece of paper sticking out of a slot that looks like a FAX machine. Do these cabs have FAX's? Would make sense to receive a Form-D like that.

That window seat is awesome... has anyone been able to get video from there? I'd imagine you can get some amazingly stable RFW videos with that...

Like the 1968 M-1 again.
Why did MTA insist on full-width cabs ? Crumple zone is obviously not the issue.

Are they still blocking off the first seats behind the RFW?

Nice job. Pity you don't have any of these Bethlehem-bound or Reading-bound though . . . although I'd be fine with being able to ride the Bombardier push-pulls (including the still-working 74,000-lb-each Comet Is) to either destination, frankly. (Oh well; no excuse not to lease ALP-45DPs if they're proven to work, yes?)

IINM, they would and so would the MLVs. (Max allowable clearance 14' 11" IIRC.)

There's a significant chance it wouldn't. After all, something nearly 71 feet long and 14 feet tall is pretty much unprecedented in terms of regular operation out of Suburban Station. The PRR didn't run the GG1s out of there despite being a full foot shorter and effectively half the length due to their articulated frame. Whether this restriction was due to clearance or tractive effort problems on the grade west of Suburban isn't clear. But it's certain that NJT's white elephants will not outperform the GG1 and thus they will more than likely not be found suitable for operation through the CCCT.

What a difference their new cabs are. Though it always seems weird to me their the one septa job i know of where there's apparently no uniform.

Have engineers ever worn uniforms on any railroad? I know they traditionally wore striped overalls and striped caps but was that ever required?
