76th Street Question

After reading through all of the comments, I tired to find more info on 76th. I read under the abandoned station list in NYC subways.org about 76th and there is a photo. Sorry to bring this up again but is this photo false? Is the info on nycsubways.org false as well?
I'm really confused

The photo is shopped. The orignal photo is on nycsubways.org ner the back of the R-10 collection.

That *something* is back there is without a doubt, but the LION does not think it goes back very far. There may or may not be a platform back there, and in any event, it was planned as a LOCAL station and the picture is clearly of an express station.

The ONLY subway station at 76th Street is on my layout in North Dakota.

It's not on nycsubway.org, it's on Joseph Brennan's site at http://www.columbia.edu/~brennan/abandoned/76st.html. At least that is where it originally appeared, on April 1, 2002. And it seems like he is leaving it up.

You know the picture of the train at 76th Street is a total fake. I have said several times somebody needs to take ground penetrating radar to the site when 76th Street Station was supposed to be and see if anything is there underground. If there is man the bulldozers!! If not go home.

I've read it before as well. So what you're saying is that:

1. Mitch45 is wrong (what a surprise)

2. Mitch45 is repeating bad information and not qualifying it as something other than first-hand knowledge or at least knowledge that he can reasonable believe is correct (what a surprise)

Thank you for correcting him.

It was an obvious prank, with text like this:

"A field trip in March 2002 turned up this flat grassy area in front of a house set back from the street. This is probably the location of one of the station stairways. A neighborhood kid told me not to go in there, because it wasn't safe to stand on. He said he bounced a ball in there once and it disappeared right into the ground. A man inside the house came to the door and explained, "Hey you, get out of here. What are you taking pictures?" "

The 76 St station is not listed on Brennans abandoned stations page, you have to type in the url to reach it -

The problem with even considering the validity of Joe Brennan's April fool photo is that it is apparent that most of the readers of this site are painfully unaware that 76 St was never meant to be a terminal but only a local station on a line that was proposed to extend farther out towards the Aqueduct area where the connection to the LIRR ROW was originally supposed to be made. The evidence, scant though it may be, of the existence of a 76 St station shell which consists of the display on the Euclid model board of the 76 St station clearly shows that there was no provision for the station to be used as a terminal since there were to have been no switches of any kind immediately east of the station. I have brought this to the attention of the readers of this forum many times and yet there seem to be some individuals who believe that the Joe Brennan gag photo has a certain degree of authenticity as well as some apocryphal articles that have shown up that also, indicate that there was some sort of service terminating at that location.

Well, it is a darn good Photoshop job, as others have said. It would never have occurred to me that the original photo was not of an "A" train at all, but of a "B". I figured it was an A train running local on CPW for some reason, and that the station was either 72nd St., 86th St., or 96th St., any of which would require only changing one digit on the station sign. Nope!
