Hizzoner added, “It would be great to do those kinds of things, free transfers, who knows?” Not entirely sharing his enthusiasm was Joseph Lhota, head of the cash-strapped subway system. Lhota — speaking at a transportation forum in Midtown — said he supported the idea of adding MetroCards to city ferries. But then he threw cold water on the idea of free transfers. “I’m not sure how that would come about. Half-assed as it is the SF Bay area is moving toward a single fare card usable on pretty much any local transit. Really lousy customer service, but a single rfid in my pocket...
