Mexico question |
|
Posted by kp5308 on Sun Apr 29 14:36:47 2012 My wife & I visited Cancun last week & came across this car at Xcaret. I've not been able to find any information on it & was wondering if anyone out there knows anything about it. What I do know is N de M did not come within several hundred miles of Cancun. The closest railroad I saw in our travels was a branch near Chichen Itza. It appears to be horse drawn & a genuine historic artifact. Comments? |

A good site covering those car lines is The Tramways of Yucatán The city of Cancún is a new city, and Xcaret is promoted as an Disney-type eco-park. The NdeM did not come into being until 1938, operated railroads; NdeM would not have been the original owner of this car, nor would it have had any reason to have possessed this car.My educated guess is that this car was operated on one of the plantation railroads on the peninsula, was acquired by Xcaret, and painted up to promote Xcaret without regard to its actual historical significance (a scheme not uncommon in many parts of México). |
