LACMTA Blue Line Collides with School Police Car

Blue Line train collided with a school police car in downtown LA shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday, fire officials said.

The driver of the police vehicle, believed to be the sole occupant of that car, was transported by police escort to the hospital with unknown injuries, according to officials in the LAPD Central Traffic Division.

First responders used the Jaws of Life to pry the door off the police car to extract the driver.

The crash occurred near the intersection of Los Angeles Street and Washington Boulevard.

Fire officials said multiple victims were potentially involved, and all appeared to have minor injuries.

Yes. The train always has the right of way.

FYI: The Emergency Vehicle NEVER has the "right of way", they are responsible for all vehicles at all intersections at all times, they may not proceed through an intersection until ALL other vehicles have stopped and yielded to them.

I seem to recall a time when emergency vehicles did have the absolute right of way but as you say, that does not appear to be the case now in most jurisdictions.

Lights and sirens are a way of REQUESTING the right of way. If you hit another vehicle while engaged in emergency operation, it's on you. If you get hit by a train, you're an idiot.
