Are these the stops that didn't even have low platforms and used stools to let people on and off the train? When I rode to Boston in 1988 there were still a couple of stops like that between New Haven and Providence. |

There have never been full length high level platforms at either of these stations. If there were in 1988, they would still be in place today. However, there is a one car length high level platform at the end of the stations on both sides for the Business Class car only. Besides that, the majority of the length of the platforms are at track level. |

Could you please re-read my original post?No low level platform, no high level platform, no platform at all, was what I meant. The conductor would get off the train with a stool in his hand and position it under the lowest step of an Amfleet door for people getting on and off. |

You're thinking of New London. Note that New London's current high level platform is incompatible with the M8's, as there is an extremely large gap. Even the Amtrak/SLE trains which use that platform (which have end doors where the gap isn't QUITE as bad) need to put down a bridge to fill the gap.Mystic & Westerly both have low level platforms which are on sharp curves (what is it with building stations on sharp curves in this area?), making it very difficult to add a high level platform at either station. I don't know about Mystic, but Westerly does have a portable lift available for disabled passengers. |

Those are some of the now SLE stations, all of which now have platforms (all except Westbrook are high level). Before SLE started up, those stations saw very little service from Amtrak/NH. |

I grew up in Western Europe and Japan where you didn't see that kind of setup anymore, at least not on a major trunk line. |
