It's interesting that the MTA has the money to ADA equip Bay Parkway and Hunter College but they don't have the money to ADA equip one of the busiest transfer points in the city, East New York?

Also Jamaica Scoot (Shuttle) sounds really inconvenient for the type of transfer train service the MTA runs out of Jamaica.

16TPH to Brooklyn? That's an 8-10 minute headway! They've got to be nuts if they think the line needs that much service outside of the rush hour.

See if its fare structure becomes NYCT's, stays with LIRR, or both are acceptable. Ideally, buy a Zone 3 ticket rather than Zone 1, then MC.

Since it is a shuttle I would imagine that they would use shorter trains. Four cars perhaps? Eight cars on game days?

The service will probably be less frequent than stated. When the MTA shy's away from calling this line what it is, a shuttle. Then you know something not-so-great is coming to the LIRR.

In 1832 the LIRR stretched from Atlantic Terminal to Jamaica. In 1837 it was extended to Hicksville. Instituting one-seat Brooklyn Jamaica service.

Whatever good or bad will come from this service rearrangement it must be stated that this will be the historic end of one seat service form Brooklyn through Jamaica to Hicksville and beyond that began in 1837.

187 years of a commuting tradition will come to an end in 2017, and until East Side Access opens one year later this will be the most visible service change in the modern history of the LIRR.

While they will lie on a stack of Bibles about it today, operating budget pressures (and all this Manhattan service and Scoot thing WILL blow their operating budget) will mean over nite and weekend Far Rockaway service becomes shuttles to Valley Stream or cut back to Jamaica.

They run thru now basically to give Valley Stream and Brooklyn 2 trains per hour. When Brooklyn goes away as a thru service, they will tell Valley Stream to go eff themselves as they did the whole Port Washington branch.

I would think 7 6-car trains overhauled M-3's ought to be good enough for this Brooklyn Scoot, run it every 10 minutes.

Um, there was no one seat ride between Brooklyn and Hicksville from 1905 (start of Brooklyn electrification) to 1972 (electrification beyond Mineola). You "changed at Jamaica" and you will again. Main Line only gets a couple of rush hour Brooklyn trains a day anyway.

Thanks for the correction, but there was still the electric service to stations east of Jamaica that provided the one seat ride which was my whole point about the end of this service.

I doubt it. Unless they plan on doubling some other routes, the overnight and weekend Far Rock trains will simply be GCT trains.

One elevator for each of the IND platforms. The front mezzanine slightly extended west because the stairs are at the front of the platform. The elevators will be behind the stairs.
One elevator (should be two) to rise from the IND mezzanine to the LJZ mezzanine using a balcony against the wall (Jamaica Van Wyck) to connect to the LJZ mezzanine from near the foot of the current escalators.

For example: /= escalator going up/down
]= elevator
]/= when you transfer from the subway to the el's, this is the new configuration to the LJZ mezzanine.

The JZ platforms will each have on elevator just west the stairs from the perspective of the mezzanine. There is room for that.

The L platform to Canarsie already has a ramp so the elevator there is not necessary. The Manhattan bound L platform will have one elevator at the top of the ramp, a cross over (like at Junction Blvd), and another elevator to the manhattan bound platform.

It's very simple. Seven elevators minimum although I would suggest two elevators connecting the IND to the BMT el's.

I agree, they would be a fine choice for a scoot.
With only four stations, piece of cake!
If the floor level and platform levels could match.
That and serviceable rolling stock could be brought to FRA spec.'s

A railfan would notice right away.
The casual observer wouldn't notice for days , or weeks.

The original intent of Platform C and Tracks 4 & 5 were to base Atlantic Avenue Locals, as were the 2 stub tracks east. There were once 3 stub tracks, but one was ripped out early on to spread the other two to clear MP54's side-by-side, not the narrower MP41's.

There really isn't a place to do it unless you can somehow extend the existing structure and put new staircases a bit past where the current staircases are and put elevators where the existing staircases are.

Otherwise, it's impossible.

Defeats the whole purpose. They want the crossovers ripped out so that there are no crossover conflicts on the "Jay" side of Jamaica gunking up the works.

It would be close to impossible to route a train from Platform F to the South Road / Atlantic Branch. That is an inflexibility they are not willing to deal with.

The Platform letters don't seem to be obvious to the public anymore.
