Here's a screen shot from another forum. Metro is also reporting that the train derailed. This is the second Expo accident in 3 days btw. And Expo was supposed to open over a year ago. They have been testing for a solid year, but are having a problem with the junction with the blue line. |

It's on what will be the shared blue/expo line along Flower which is a one way street. What happens is that the train was going in the same direction as the car, but trailing it. Somehow the car turned in front of the train. Probably ran a red light accidentally. When the trains come there are all kinds of flashing lights and some of the turns can be confusing. This one isn't though. |

No, they can't. Originally people were hoping that the line would open partially to Crenshaw two years ago. Then Metro even said that it would open last year to La Cienega with an opening to Culver City this year. Now the line is completed all the way to Culver City, but they still can't open because of problems with ATP at the junction with the blue line. It's a real fiasco! |

That (kinda) happened in the only vehicle-Blue Line accident that I ever witnessed. Early 1991, shortly after 7th St/Metro Center opened, I was on a southbound train, we come out of the portal headed toward Pico station. Right when we get to 12th St, T/O suddenly goes into emergency and I hear the impact. This van had apparently made a left turn against the red arrow from Flower St onto 12th St in front of the train. Man and a woman (wife?) were inside, fortunately not injured (I think the LRV just hit a glancing blow). I figured we'd be there for awhile, but the T/O got on the radio, after going out to talk to the van driver, and after a few minutes, we were on our way. Guess Central Control cleared him to go, and let the LAUSD Blue Line division follow up. Once we got on the main line, turns out the horn was trashed (the original horns were down low, lower right hand corner of the car, I think they often were causalities of even a minor collision), so he used the bell the rest of the way. Probably why they eventually moved the horns to the roof. Glad I never witnessed any of the really bad accidents, though there was a close call or two. |

Nice.I'll be glad when the line opens. Both Expo II and Crenshaw should be under major construction by the end of this year (Expo in a couple of months). Can't wait for that too! |

Lots of accidents on that stretch. I've been luck so far, knock on wood. But I was thinking today how tough it must be on the operators. On The Tube television programme they were discussing "one unders" and how tough they are on the train drivers. LA is much worse because you not only have to worry about jumpers, but also car collisions. I think that a high percentage of LA train operators on the blue line have been in a crash at some point. Probably multiple crashes. |

It's been called the Expo Line from the start since it traverses Exposition Boulevard. Phase 2 will see the line extended to Santa Monica so Culver City will only be a stop on the way. There was talk of naming the line for a color (Blue, Red, Purple, Green, Gold, Orange, and Silver are already in use), and nothing suitable seemed to fit. "Aqua" and "Pink" were suggestions, but vetoed by City Council member Bernard Parks, whose district is served by the line. |

No, it was an Expo test train. You can see the P2000 in the picture that I posted. The P2000 is what they have been using for Expo testing. The blue line runs P865's. Also, the article noted that no passengers were on board. That would never be the case on the blue line on a Saturday afternoon. Or anytime really. |

It was reported on another message board that two TV stations initially said it was the Expo Line and subsequently corrected their stories to say it was the Blue Line. I should have known better than believing TV news reports. |
