If I remember the North Hollywood car at Orange Empire, the operator's controls were on the left side of the car not in the middle as on the repro. |

Sure is ... look at the top front and you'll see the "W E S T I N ..." where it usually goes between the lid screws, and the lift down and out cover is also a clue. |

"The centerpiece of the new entry will be the Red Car Trolley, which, though battery-powered, will travel along tracks and will be connected to decorative overhead wires via “power poles.” The style of the trolley will harken back to the Pacific Electric Railway that used to run throughout Southern California in the 1920s."http://www.diszine.com/content/disney-california-adventure-red-car-trolley-concept-art |

Actually, I've heard that, for color and great photographs (except now they're "Fuji Moments", the 7 Dwarfs push it from the rear. However, since this job places tremendous stress on them, Disney needed to hire many extra dwarfs so the car could run continuously. Once in a while Cinderella takes the place of a dwarf and later gives each of them a special treat for performing admirably..... |

It is a WH controller and while it my not be identical to, it is very similar to the controllers on the old North Shore interurbans and the New Haven heavyweight MUs. |

They did a good job reproducing the "Hollywood" car (my favorite PE cars) :)However, the trackage looks narrow-gauge (similar to LARy) rather than standard gauge, which PE used. Maybe that was due to space constraints. |

Well usually they try to get most details correct. So I guess it must be space, since CA doesn't have it compared to its florida counterpart. |

Disney doesn't build standard gauge trains because they don't scale properly to their surroundings.4 out of the 5 steam railroads are 36" gauge. tokyo uses 30". the trains appear larger becuase everything around them is built to a similar scale. |

"Maybe" due to space constraints? Everything is smaller there, as it has to be. And even if that wasn't the case, this is California's Disneyland. They are in the middle of a neighborhood there, they don't have the vast space they have in Florida. It's LITERALLY in a neighborhood. There are homes on the outskirts that look right at the Disney property at the end of their streets. For example, Disney is just on the other side of those trees at the end of this street: View Larger Map Here too on Katella....the real world on the right, and Disney on the left. You can even see the rides from the street. There's no comparison to Florida's set up. View Larger Map |
