Posted by kp5308 on Sun Mar 4 20:49:54 2012 Donated some time to West Jersey Chapter NRHS at the train show at Clarke today. Chuchubob, A-Rod & I got away for an hour to see what we could catch.CSX east:  with 2 leasers in the back. HLCX SD40-2 8073 has been 8073 since Burlington Northern took delivery in December 1979. CITX SD40-2M 2793 began service back in April 1969 as Southern Pacific SD45 9099:  NJT west. That yellow signal up yonder on the right goes OUT & stays out when an eastbound freight is in the block. What is up with that?  NJT east. Unlike Union, only one gantlet track...or is it gauntlet?  A short CSX eastbound finishes our visit:  |

It has been explained to me that gantlet has switchpoint but no frog & gauntlet is the opposite. The PRR/PC employee timetables have instructions on operations thru the B&P Tunnel "gauntlet track" which I believe was a frog only setup. My teacher on this matter retired as a Yardmaster with 42 years of service. He is far more reliable on this subject than Wiki. |

Q-410 had one impressive lashup!!! Nice shots, man!! :-)BTW, from what I have observed on NJT territory as well as along the Lehigh Line (CSAO), often when there are no movements lined up for a considerable time, the signals, both automatic and at times also home signals at CPs will shut down, and this is mostly a matter of maintaining bulb life of the signals and energy savings. I have even seen CP BOUND BROOK "go dark", until movement is lined up by Conrail North Jersey Dispatcher. |
