Their decades long struggle against constructing this subway is what led the MTA do go to the deep bore route. Had they been willing to endure s short period of disruption, cut and cover would have negated any need for the use of explosives. |

These nouveau riche folks want to live in a city but don't want to put up with what, unfortunately, is part of life in a city. A city that doesn't grow and build isn't a healthy city. They chose to live there. There IS a solution - my wife snores to beat the band. What do I do? I go to sleep with a pair of -35db Peltor earmuffs on. End of problem.wayne |

Do these people want better transit on the ES or not? Business owners along the original IRT route complained too.Maybe these complainers are the ones who take taxis everywhere and never set foot in the subway. |

These UES goobers man........same ones who are trying to block the building of additional entrances for the crowded-as-hell 68th St. 6 station because it'll bring "noise and crime" to their quiet block. Lame. |

In fact, their isn't about preferring a specific type of rich people. I couldn't care less for them. This is about benefitting the majority. And, I never said anything about communism. |

True!If they had been able to do cut-and-cover, this probably would have been a lot faster and they probably would have in the end had an improved roadway to boot when it was finished! |

I took a look at Second Avenue just last Friday afternoon. I'd say that even with the deep-bore, the street's pretty f***ed up. With cut-and-cover, the job likely would've been cheaper, easier to expand in the future, and not that much more disruptive than what's actually happening. After all, cut & cover's being used to build the stations anyway...And there would have been much less, if any, need to use explosives. Oh well. |

I suspect that once the SAS is in service- and I'm much more optimistic on that point than orginally was- these same folks will make heavy use of it. |
