Knife terror aboard (N) train @ Queensboro Plaza

A crazed subway panhandler pulled a knife and threatened a straphanger on a crowded train yesterday before being subdued by a good Samaritan and held until cops arrived, authorities and witnesses said.

The 35-year-old woman boarded the Manhattan-bound N train at around 6:40 p.m. at Queensboro Plaza and began asking for money.

Another woman, 52, began mocking her, unleashing the vagrant’s anger.

“The beggar woman came around and spit at her,” said witness Natalie Arneson. “The heckler spit back and the beggar turned around, charged at her and pulled out a knife.”

“Everybody started running, it was crazy,” said another witness, who asked not to be identified.

Another man, 33, grabbed the panhandler and held her until the train arrived at the Lexington Avenue station.

Some people would consider disturbing the relative quietness of their commute on the N train as being bothered. Especially if the N train where this incident occurred had another N train close in front of it.

I saw plenty of instances on the Astoria Line yesterday where an N train to 34th Street got quite full, only to be followed by a relatively empty Coney Island train.

I see someone who clearly looks like a crackhead or a phony - - I simply walk to the next car or pull my hat down so I won't see the pandhandler.

There's a guy I assume that you might have run into on the (J). He's not homeless nor does he appear to be unbalanced but for several weeks last year he was telling how his grand daughter was shot in the projects and he needed just $60 more for flowers for her burial.

The first time I heard the story, it played pretty well. Of course as employees we're forbidden to give so....... After the 3rd or 4th time after several weeks I was tempted to ask if the lack of $60 was actually holding up the burial. Then common sense prevailed and I continued to pretend to ignore him. You never know if he had a weapon along with hes cup.

How about the phony guy who appeared to have suffered a stroke - - remember that blond guy with his "limp" on one side of his body? And the spanish couple who "lost" their baby due to a fire which "gutted" their home?

There was a spanish couple with a baby on the A train a few days ago saying they needed some money to stay in a hotel and out of a shelter.
